Express 67, Legends 54
Sunday, May 11, 2008
BY JIM THOMAS
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER
CANTON Canton Legends quarterback Scott McMullen threw seven touchdown
passes. Tim Smith and Kevin Mason caught three touchdowns apiece, and
each had more than 100 yards receiving.
"We've got all the pieces," Smith said Saturday night. "You can see that."
Unfortunately, there's more to this picture. For the eighth time in as many games, the Legends failed to seal the deal.
The Reading Express kept the Legends winless with a 67-54
shootout victory before a thousand hardy souls at Memorial Civic
Center. That extended Reading's record at the Civic Center to 3-0.
Canton missed its one and only opportunity to take the lead in
the third quarter, after its only defensive stop of the game. It had a
PAT blocked in the third quarter and returned by Reading for 2 points,
followed by a blocked field goal the next series that resulted in an
Express safety.

Bobby is back with a new
addition to his family and ours. Coach Bobby Olive returns to the
Canton Legends in a lead role as head coach and will develop his
coaching staff. As I spoke with Bobby, his one day old son, Trey was
crying in the background. Bobby and his lovely wife San are proud
parents of three children. Coach Olive brings NFL, Arena experience as well as a Canton Legends National Championship in 2006 with a number of X Buckeyes to the field.
Coach
Olive and Coach Korns have great chemistry with the players. Ed Korns
will assume his position as offensive coordinator. See Coach Olive's
return debut, Buckeyes / Browns night, Saturday May 10th at 7pm. Come
and watch the Legends get back on track with Mason, McMullen and a host
of local talent.

READING, Pa. Three second-quarter Reading
touchdowns snowballed into a 36-7 Express victory Friday night over the
Canton Legends at the Sovereign Center before a crowd of 2,997 fans.
The Legends trailed just 7-0 after one quarter and were down
14-7 after Tim Smith's 9-yard touchdown reception. But Reading got a
2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Rob Flowers with 55 seconds left
and a 20-yard Flowers-to-Carmelo Ocasio touchdown pass with one second
remaining in the half to make it 28-7. Kicker Erik Rockhold booted a
rouge for another point for a 29-7 Express lead at halftime.
Reading improved to 5-2. A week after scoring just 6 points, Canton (0-6) managed just 163 total yards.
Legends quarterback Jamie Williamson was picked off three
times. He finished 21-of-37 for 171 yards. Flowers threw three
touchdown passes, two to Ocasio, and was not intercepted in a 17-of-34,
